While most of us have been enjoying the hot weather the UK has seen in the last few months, the heat also brings some unwanted and annoying visitors in the form of flies.
These pesky and annoying flies can carry disease and look dirty in the home so keeping them out is essential for many. The majority of people will use fly swatters, papers and other methods, however, there is one simple trick many believe helps rid the house of flies.
The simple trick that several householders swear by is to put pennies in a zip-lock bag half filled with water and hang it up on your door or window. While it seems strange at first the method has been proven to work – with many people swearing by it.
The science behind the trick isn’t fool proof but it seems to work for several reasons.
The theory is that when a fly heads toward the water-filled bag, it sees a large reflection that scares it away.
The penny is key as it resembles a spider, which is the predator of flies, so the flies are deterred from flying past it.
Certainly an interesting concept!
