The Cluster Flies of Dublin

A heath warning was issued in Dublin, Ireland. An increase of cluster fly infestations, up on the previous years, with Dublin having the highest callouts to Rentokil. The cluster fly slightly larger and clumsier than your average house fly can lead to illness when coming into contact with human food, spreading bacteria associated with E. coli, Salmonella and campylobacter, which can lead to a range of illnesses in humans, the most common being diarrhoea.
Cluster flies traditionally like warmer weather but become a real pest during the colder months as they seek out holes in buildings to keep warm, should they find a way into your home they will stay by windows and lights to stay warm. With the weather remaining quite chilly, cluster flies are still a major problem.
While dealing with the flies its best to make sure all food is stored and covered to prevent contamination from the flies. In larger groups their excrement can cause staining and quite the stench. It’s always best to act fast and get rid of this pest before it becomes a severe problem.
