Due to the incredibly warm weather, horsefly bites are set to increase. Horseflies are most active in the summer months – particularly June and July. Although they are known for biting horses, they can also target humans.
Horseflies are usually found in long grass and damp woodland areas. The hot weather has helped insect’s lifecycles along, therefore seeing an increased number of them this summer.
Professionals say they are seeing huge numbers of horseflies as people are reporting being bitten regularly. The bites can be painful and cause blistering and swelling to the skin. This puts the victim at risk of infection. The bites can be slow to heal – it is advised by the NHS that if you suspect that you have been bitten, see your GP immediately.
